I just found out yesterday that CLOUDLESS 9 is playing McClure's Bar & Grill tomorrow. We go on at 9:00PM and are opening for H-BLOCK. It should be a cool show. McClure's is a kickass place to play.

Last Saturday's Party

Posted by Clint at 11:46 AM on 12/12/2002   (0 Comments)

Well, the party at Jordan's house went pretty well. All things considered I think we were well received. A lot of people showed up late so we pushed our set back to 9:00PM. By then Whoredan had been drinking beer for nearly ten hours and was on his 5th shot of Jagermeister. Our first few songs we're pretty tight. Then I broke a string, Nick's bass head came unplugged, and finally Jordan's physical strength took a massive dump. Everyone had a great time though.

It was especially entertaining to see Kory pass out hard on the couch followed by Jordan taking a header into Kory's P.A. It looked as if my drummer may of cracked his head open, but I was more concerned about the beer he spilled on the mixer.

I had one of the best Thanksgiving mini-vacations in recent years. I borrowed my work's $3500 video projector and set it up in my living room. There's nothing like watching 8' x 10' DVD's projected on your wall. It was cool. But I digress...

This Saturday, December 7th is my friend Jordan's Birthday. We ( www.CLOUDLESS9.com ) are playing at 8PM sharp for approximately 30 minutes. It would be very much appreciated if you could stop by, tap the keg, and watch our set. Email or call for directions.

Check out www.cloudless9.com/music for some very fine garage recordings. And yes... these include VOCALS. I pretty much screwed up on recording the bass so it's not as heavy as it should be. Everything else sounds good though.

Pleased to meet you...

I am proud to announce the grand opening of www.cloudless9.com

Please visit the shiny and stylish new website for my brand new band, Cloudless 9. Email and let me know what you think about the name, design, etc. I think it's pretty ballsy.

Our first performance is Saturday, December 7th. We will be celebrating Jordan's birthday. So, if you want to rock email me for directions.

To all the Clint Andersons out there in googleland...

I am sorry I took your name. I'm sure there are many Clint Andersons who could build a bigger, better, and vastly improved clintanderson.com. However, that is not me. I've been thinking about buying this domain since '99. So, you had your chance.

Saturday's halloween party turned out pretty well. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. My neighbors Jenny and Cherylynn even stopped by to say hello and perform the obligatory keg stand. Jen only fell and hit her head once which must mean she's mellowing out a bit. Kory the singer got on the roof and did the "Golden God" thing and took some aerial shots. The only wrinkle during the night came when a ruffian pack of ingrates started spreading rumours that the keg was NOT Newcastle. The fact that these individuals did NOT chip in for the keg should be noted.

Conjecture

If you're out there reading this I care about you. Things have been difficult lately and they have been for a long time. I realize that finding myself is my main objective right now. This may or may not happen with you. It hasn't been decided yet.

I'm trying to be as vague as possible because life isn't two people inside a vacuum. There are many obstacles which manifest themselves in many different forms. Work. "Friends". Bills. Family. Relationships. Myself. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish friend and foe.

Currrently, my entire life is one big gray area. Passion has been stampeded and superceded by unrequited contempt. Where did it come from and when will it go? That's hard to say. I'm influenced by good forces and influenced by bad forces. At this juncture, their origins are not apparent to me.

Something needs to change. Has anyone seen my Magic Eight Ball?

Review: Bowling for Columbine

Here's a review of Michael Moore's new documentary. I haven't seen it, but I'm guessing the combined effect of the sniper deaths and this film can't be good for legal gun owners.

I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that anyone visits this site except other poor souls named Clint Anderson who are just checking to see if their name is a dotcom yet. I have nothing witty to say here. You will not find clever examples of irony, imagination, or hyperbole on this page. There will be no such devices used to disguise my perfectly ordinary life.

I'm unusual because I don't like hearing myself talk. In most cases I probably don't enjoy hearing you talk either. If your email isn't answered don't take it personal. However, if you don't answer my email I will. Oh, wait... was that ironic? No, of course not. That was hypocritical. Ah, yes! I never claimed that there would be no hypocrisy here.

This page is here to fulfill something, but I don't have a clue as to what that may be.

another band update...

Posted by Clint at 9:51 AM on 10/7/2002   (5 Comments)

On Saturday I recorded our practice at Jordan's garage. I now have Radio Shack PZM microphones that we're using as drum overheads to capture the sonics of the cymbals.

We recorded Nick for the first time and he sounds even better on CD then I thought. Unfortunately, I over-compensated on the bass volume, because I know how it feels to be cut down in the mix. The result in a very boomy recording. It is however the first session in the new studio.

The recording setup was as follows:

SM57 on my guitar cab

Radioshack dynamic mic on Jordan's kick

2 Radioshack PZM mics duct taped to wall behind Jordan's set.

SM58 on Nick's bass cab.

1 piece of foam between my guitar cab and Jordan's set.

1 piece of foam between Nick's guitar cab and Jordan's set.

The result is sparkling crashes, poppy snare, and thundering bass. However, the toms are very flat and my guitar is a bit muddy. Next time we record I will be adding two Nady dynamic mics to the set which should improve the toms and eq my rig.

Stay tuned for some Mp3's of the new stuff. Hopefully, we will record some vocals soon.

Band Update

Posted by Clint at 10:06 AM on 9/23/2002   (6 Comments)

Well, it seems as if I am part of a complete band once again. We finally have a bass player named Nick who is blessed with perfect pitch and impeccable timing. He is one of the few players besides Jordan who challenges me. I think he's jammed with us four times now. Scott, who recorded the Farwest demo referred him to us.

In fact Scott came to practice the other day to watch us jam. I was impressed that a recording engineer who's heard every band you could think of would want to hear us play in a cramped garage.

Saturday, we played a second time with a fellow named Kory who may end up being our official singer. He seems pretty confident and willing to try which is exactly what we are looking for.

Who knows, with any luck we might be playing shows in a couple of months.

almost forgot...

Well practice has been going pretty well. Last thurday we tried out a bass player named Nick. He is a self-described musical whore which means he'll play with any band. Basically Nick is Eddie Van Halen on bass which is cool, but I don't think there's a chance Nick would dedicate his talents to one band.

Apparently, we were so noisy that someone called the cops. I heard a knock on the garage door and as I opened it expecting some cool refreshments we were greeted with an order to unplug. Ouch. The fuzz said we were loud as hell, but sounded really good. Odd.

After that we trekked to Scott's studio and jammed for a couple hours. Cool stuff.

Friday, was uneventful. We tried out a singer who didn't sing. It wasn't that he sang badly. He just didn't emit any sound at all. He was completely silent for 2 hours with the exception of two very conspicuous and very misplaced grunts in the middle of one of our songs. Must look harder.

still looking for a talented bass player. this is a very difficult task. chances are i will have to settle for a guitar player who's willing to settle playing bass. starting a band is hard.

the keystone project

Posted by Clint at 10:13 AM on 8/12/2002   (5 Comments)

I've started a new project with Jordan (the drummer for The Farwest) and this time I am playing guitar. We feel really good about the music. It's tight and very dynamic. In about two days we have completed the music for five songs.

Recording it was suprisingly easy. We played live with an SM57 mic pointed at my guitar cab and three cheap mics around the drum set. The signal was run through a small mixer into my laptop.

If you're interested in what it sounds like then please download some mp3's here.

unless an unforseen disaster should occur (which is entirely likely) i will be leaving for vegas tomorrow night to attend DEFCON 10. there will be plenty of trenchcoats, piercings, tattoos, girls-wearing-fishnet-whatever-you-can-think-of (unfortunately guys too), windows morons, and unix geeks.

i hate ftp

Posted by Clint at 11:45 AM on 7/30/2002   (6 Comments)

i thought i'd take this opportunity to express how much i loath the ftp protocol. i loath most ftp users even more. why? ftp sucks. it was invented 20+ years ago and it's not aging gracefully. as a network administator it is a PITA trying to firewall ftp servers without completely breaking them. also, what kind of web developer doesn't know what passive mode is?
